Orr arrested in Collier County, released on $7000 bond

NAPLES, Fla. – Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Leon Orr was arrested Tuesday on drug charges in Collier County.

Head coach Adam Gase announced Wednesday that Orr had been cut from the team.

Collier County jail records showed that Orr was arrested on charges of marijuana possession and possession of a controlled substance.

Orr, 24, was signed to the Dolphins’ practice squad in September and was promoted to the active roster in October.

According to a Collier County Sheriff’s Office report, Orr was pulled over near a toll plaza on Interstate 75 because of illegally tinted windows on his BMW.

A deputy wrote in the report that he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the car.

The report said deputies found a backpack inside the car that contained three glass vials containing marijuana wax on the inside.

Deputies said they also found multiple bottles, one of which contained a substance that tested positive for THC.

Gase told reporters that the team learned of Orr’s arrest during practice and promptly released him.

“We’re in the middle of the season,” Gase said. “We have priorities and this is the No. 1 priority. If guys have other priorities, then they can go about their business somewhere else.”

Junkie’s jarring mugshot is a PSA about the dangers of meth

The arrest of a homeless Manhattan man who went on a drug-fueled bender outside the Holland Tunnel is Exhibit A for why drugs are bad for you, police say.

Keith Semiday, 42, who was free on bail in connection with an assault arrest last month, was busted anew by Port Authority cops at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday after he smoked crystal meth and tried entering strangers’ cars outside the Holland Tunnel toll booth, in Jersey City, police officials say.

When he sought to climb into the rear left door of a blue sedan at a toll booth, PAPD cops tackled Semiday and placed him under arrest.

Not too long ago, Semiday was a muscle-bound gym rat — but the ravages of his drug-use appear all too clear in his most recent mug shot, sources say.

“This guy once used to be all buff and musclebound like he was ‘The Hulk,’” said one source, referring to the Marvel super hero. “Now he looks like a poster boy for why you should not do drugs.”

Semiday has a 34-page wrap sheet with an array of arrests locally and in Connecticut for such crimes as robbery, assault, weapons possession and fraud. He was free on $500 bail for an

More than 100 Fight for $15 protesters arrested in Kansas City sit-in

McDonald’s employee Richard Eiker was the last of 108 people raised by police from the pavement Tuesday night at Meyer and Troost after a Fight for $15 sit-in.

Eiker, a leader in the Stand Up KC worker advocacy organization, and other protesters were arrested and charged with failure to obey a lawful order.

Those who participated in blocking the intersection were taken to four area police stations in vans and patrol cars, and it was nearly 5 a.m. Wednesday before the last of those arrested were released.

“Despite the cold pavement, people felt great about standing up for something they believe in,” said Rachel Hogan, a spokeswoman for the labor movement in Kansas City.

Low-wage fast-food workers, janitors, and child and elder care workers were joined by members of the Kansas City-area clergy and labor unions in a national day of protest about pay and civil rights.

Participants who were arrested included members of the United Auto Workers, the Communications Workers of America and the Service Employees International Union, Hogan said.

Labor unions back the Fight for $15 movement, which also focuses on the right of workers to unionize without retribution.

Protest organizers arranged “walk-back” assistance for workers who struck their jobs Tuesday.
