LOOK: Ex-Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer jokes about Baker Mayfield’s arrest

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was
arrested early Saturday morning and faces a number of charges
, including public intoxication and fleeing the scene. The fleeing the scene charge has drawn the most attention because, according to the arresting officer’s report, Mayfield tried to run and was chased down from behind by the police.

Meaning the police play better defense than just about everybody else in the Big 12.

Anyway, while I crack jokes here, plenty of others had fun with Mayfield’s arrest on the internet as well, including former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer, who jumped in the fray by retweeting a doctored photo he saw.

Yes, it’s funny, but I have to say I’m worried about Barry’s memory. He may say that they wouldn’t have been able to catch any of his quarterbacks — remember, Barry ran an option offense with the Sooners — but history suggests otherwise.

Suspect’s Mugshot Released in North County Murder Case | NBC 7 …

Investigators have released the mugshot of the man accused of killing a young woman found dead last month on the side of a road in San Diego’s North County.

Suspect Paul Castro, 27, a resident of Las Vegas, was taken into custody by homicide detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He’s a documented gang member, authorities said.

Castro was an acquaintance of Antonia Herrera, 23, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s Department (SDSO) Lt. Kenn Nelson.

Nelson said they met through mutual friends in Las Vegas.

Herrera’s body was found on Jan. 12 on Champagne Boulevard in unincorporated Escondido, near Interstate 15.

Her manner of death was ruled a homicide, but her autopsy was sealed.

Nelson said Wednesday that investigators believe Herrera was shot to death inside a friend’s car as she was traveling back to San Diego from Las Vegas on Jan. 12. Castro was in that car, too.

“We do have that vehicle in our possession, and we will be processing it, based on search warrants that we have obtained for that,” Nelson said.

Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield arrested for public intoxication, resisting arrest

Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield was arrested early Saturday morning in Fayetteville, Ark., on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, fleeing and resisting arrest.

Mayfield was arrested at 2:56 a.m. booked into jail at 8:21 a.m. He was released at 11:23 a.m. on a $1,535 bond. Mayfield faces an April 7 court date on the public intoxication charge, according to the Washington County sheriff’s office.

Oklahoma’s spring game is April 8.

Fayetteville police officer Scott Brand was flagged down at 2:29 a.m. Saturday to take an assault and battery report from a person yelling at Mayfield, who said he had been trying to break up an altercation, according to a preliminary police report obtained by ESPN. The officer asked Mayfield to remain on the scene so he could take his statement, at which point Mayfield began “yelling profanities and causing a scene,” according to the report.

Mayfield had slurred speech, difficulty walking down stairs and food covering the front of his clothing. When the officer called Mayfield over, he began to walk away before sprinting, forcing the officer to chase and tackle him, according to the report. Mayfield then refused to place his arms behind his back, despite repeated orders to do so,

Leading critic of Philippine leader arrested on drug charges

A Philippine senator and leading critic of President Rodrigo Duterte’s deadly crackdown on illegal drugs said she won’t be intimidated by a leader she called a “serial killer” after police arrested her on drug charges.

Leila de Lima said the accusations against her were part of an attempt by Duterte to muzzle critics of the clampdown that has left more than 7,000 suspected dealers and small-time users dead. She questioned why the court suddenly issued the arrest order when it was scheduled Friday to hear her petition to throw out the charges of receiving bribes from detained drug lords.

“If they think they can silence me, if they think I will no longer fight for my advocacies, especially on the truth on the daily killings and other intimidations of this Duterte regime. It’s my honor to be jailed for what I’ve been fighting for,” she said before police took her into custody at the Senate.

A police convoy, trailed by media vans, took de Lima to the main police camp, where officers took her mugshot and fingerprints before they locked her up in a detention center. Two former senators she helped prosecute for plunder when she was the justice secretary have

Oklahoma quarterback arrested for public intoxication, resisting arrest

Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield has been arrested and charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Mayfield, a Heisman Trophy finalist last year, was booked into the Washington County Jail after first walking, then running away and being tackled by an officer following an altercation near Fayetteville’s Dickson Street early Saturday, police said.

A preliminary police report said an intoxicated Mayfield first told an officer he was trying to break up an altercation, but that he later “was yelling profanities and causing a scene” while the officer questioned another man. After Mayfield was tackled, he refused to put his arms behind his back and was eventually forced into handcuffs before being arrested, police said.

Oklahoma spokesman Michael Houck said the school is aware of the incident and pursuing details.

Mayfield is known for his emotional demeanor and outgoing personality. He sported a horseshoe mustache during the Oklahoma State game last season that determined the Big 12 champion, saying there’s a new sheriff in town as a dig at the rival school’s Cowboy mascot. He also wore a shirt under his uniform proclaiming the Sooners the 2016 conference champions during the game, which the Sooners won 38-20.

Mayfield finished third in the Heisman balloting last
