Calif. man held in 2011 slayings of Columbia mother and daughter

A California man has been arrested in the 2011 slayings of a Columbia woman and her 3-year-old daughter, who were found dead at what officials described as a “gruesome” crime scene.

Kenneth Canzater, 33, of Perris, Calif., was arrested last week in California and will be charged with the murders of Candra Alston, 25, and her daughter Malaysia Boykin, police said Thursday. Columbia police officers arrested Canzater outside a motel in Corona, Calif., on March 23. He is jailed in Riverside, Calif., awaiting extradition.

Alston and Malaysia were found dead in Alston’s home at Brook Pines Apartments off Broad River Road on Jan. 9, 2011, in what Chief Skip Holbrook called “a truly horrific crime scene.” Holbrook said Alston was shot in the head, and Malaysia, known by family members as “La La,” had been stabbed multiple times.

Holbrook described Canzater as an acquaintance of Alston and said the suspect admitted to knowing and spending time with Alston and her daughter. He declined to comment on a possible motive.

“I think it would be speculation to say there was a particular motive,” he said.

Alston’s father made the grisly discovery after going to the apartment when the family had

1 arrested in shooting of 2 Miami-Dade undercover detectives – 7News – WSVN

WEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – A Miami-Dade judge has denied bond for a 19-year-old man, Thursday morning, in connection with the shooting of two undercover police officers.

According to a Miami-Dade Police tweet officials sent out just after 9 a.m., the arrest was made during their investigation into the shooting of Miami-Dade detectives 47-year-old Terence White and 37-year-old Charles Woods. Shortly afterwards, police confirmed that the subject is 19-year-old Damian Thompson, noting that he was arrested thanks to several Crime Stoppers tips.

Police have charged Thompson with first-degree attempted murder, battery on a police officer and resisting an officer with violence.

This is not Thompson’s first run-in with the law. The 19-year-old was arrested back in January for carrying a concealed weapon during a Martin Luther King Day parade. The officer who arrested him happened to be White.

Police said they found Thompson on Tuesday at the Hyatt Place Miami Airport hotel. They also said he resisted officers by throwing punches at them during the struggle.

The 19-year-old arrived to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, Wednesday afternoon, and was seen exiting the police cruiser with a black eye.

According to the police report, Thompson told officers that he hated police and that he would kill them

Tinsley Mortimer Explains How She Got That Infamous Mugshot

The Real Housewives of New York City newbie Tinsley Mortimer is quick to confirm to Dorinda Medley in the Season 9 trailer for RHONY that she has a mugshot. And the ladies talk a lot about how the Big Apple socialite was once a prominent “It” girl around town before landing in some trouble, which stemmed from an April 2016 arrest for trespassing at the Palm Beach home of her former boyfriend, Alexander “Nico” Fanjul. Now, Tinsley is opening up about how the relationship she was in with the Domino sugar heir led to her arrest.

“It ended up that things did get pretty dark and it was physical and emotional abuse [that was] involved and I found myself in a very lost, dark place that I never anticipated ever being in. And it was bad,” she tells PEOPLE. “I had moments of feeling like I wasn’t going to make it. I was going to be one of those tragic stories you see on TV.”

TInsley said that there had been abuse that she had been hiding for years, adding that there were many relationship highs and lows when they were together. “When it was good, it was so good.

Injured officer ID’d teen charged in ambush shooting of undercover detectives, police say

Three months ago, Miami-Dade Detective Terence White collared a teenager nicknamed “Damo” on a weapons charge in the Brownsville housing projects known as “PSU.”

On Monday, White again crossed paths with the teen — this time identifying Damian “Damo” Thompson as the person who unleashed a barrage of AK47 bullets at him and his partner as they sat in an unmarked police minivan in the same housing complex where they first met.

White’s testimony was key evidence for Miami-Dade homicide detectives early Wednesday as they arrested Thompson in connection with the ambush-style shooting that left White and fellow detective Charles Woods recovering from bullet wounds.

Thompson, a reputed associate of a Miami street gang known as the 13th Avenue Hot Boyz, was charged with two counts of attempted murder with a firearm.

He was not charged with trying to kill law-enforcement officers — despite hours of interrogation, he offered no confession and it was unclear whether he knew the two plainclothes detectives were police.

According to his arrest report, however, Thompson “acknowledged knowing Detective White.”

Miami-Dade police booked the 19-year-old Thompson into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Wednesday afternoon. His jail mugshot showed Thompson with his left eye almost shut and his

Colt Lyerla, former Oregon Ducks player, arrested again on drug charges

Colt Lyerla

Updated at 5 p.m.

Former Oregon Ducks tight end Colt Lyerla was booked into jail Monday after police say he passed off counterfeit $50 bills and was carrying heroin, according to court documents.

Lyerla, 24, was arraigned Tuesday in Washington County Circuit Court on an unlawful possession of heroin charge. He was initially booked into the county jail on additional accusations of first-degree forgery and probation violation.

Lyerla was sentenced March 14 in Washington County to a year and a half of probation after a judge found him guilty in February of possessing heroin. He is next scheduled to appear in court on his latest charge on April 4.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a manager at a 7-Eleven in Hillsboro reported to police Sunday that a man paid for items with a fake $50 on Thursday then tried again Sunday. The customer left when a clerk refused to accept the bill.

The clerk told police the customer was very tall and appeared to have a wallet full of $50 bills, the affidavit said. An officer saw the surveillance footage and believed the customer’s build, facial hair and tattoos looked similar to

Married teacher smiles in mugshot after being arrested for having sex with a student at her school

According to the Houston Chronicle, a school administrator had contacted the police about an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and a student.

In a statement on its website, Lockhart Independent School District said she been suspended.

“Parents entrust their children to us every day, and it is something  we do not take lightly,” Superintendent Susan Bohn said in the statement.

“Student safety is the district’s most  important priority. As soon as we learned of the report, we acted swiftly to involve law enforcement and CPS to conduct  a thorough  investigation. The district does not and will not tolerate any  improper communication or contact between a teacher and child.”

Local police officer Detective Jesse Bell told KXAN: “Seventeen years old is obviously older but at the same time it doesn’t make anything right.

“If the kid is in school, parents trust the school to take care of their kids so it’s definitely not right — that a teacher in a position of power over a student be able to take advantage of a student.”

Man arrested in connection with vandalism attack on Fort Collins Islamic Center

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Police on Monday identified and arrested the man suspected of vandalizing the Islamic Center of Fort Collins early Sunday morning.

Joseph Scott Giaquinto, 35, faces charges of criminal mischief, third-degree trespassing and bias-motivated crime for the incident.

Police say Giaquinto targeted the Islamic Center and threw several large rocks and a Bible through glass doors and into the prayer area of the mosque.

“We will not tolerate acts of hatred in our community, and I hope this arrest sends that message loud and clear,” said Fort Collins Police Chief John Hutto. “While the building can be repaired, this incident caused deeper hurt that won’t just go away. I urge all of our citizens to continue showing the kind of support and acceptance demonstrated at the Islamic Center rally on Sunday night.”

The Washington-based Center on American Islamic Relations called earlier Monday for authorities to investigate the incident as a hate crime, which falls under Fort Collins’s bias-motivated crime statute.

“I have not in 20 years seen a case where somebody used a Bible to desecrate another faith’s place of worship,” said Corey Saylor, of CAIR. He knows what happened here isn’t isolated.

Soon-to-be-released data will reveal a more-than 50 percent
