Arrest made in woman’s assault at Memorial City Mall

HOUSTON – Houston police say an arrest has been made in the assault of a woman at Memorial City Mall.

Maurice Mosley, 27, is charged with aggravated assault. His mugshot has not yet been released.

Police say the crime happened Sunday morning when an employee of the mall, 31, walked into a restroom.

She was ambushed by a man who approached her from behind and placed a trash bag around her neck, police say. The suspect then began strangling the victim until she lost consciousness, police said. He then kicked her repeatedly before fleeing and boarding a METRO bus.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where doctors say she is expected to survive.

Investigators say they were able to identify the suspect using surveillance video. HPD officers in southwest Houston said they recognized the man from previous calls.

Anyone with additional information on this case can contact the HPD Major Assaults Unit at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
