Suspended Leechburg police Chief Mike Diebold headed for PFA hearing – Tribune

Updated 38 minutes ago

The wife of suspended Leechburg police Chief Mike Diebold has filed for a permanent protection from abuse order against him.

According to court records, a hearing on the request by Danielle Reinke Diebold is scheduled for Wednesday in Armstrong County Court in Kittanning.

The PFA hearing was confirmed Thursday by Brenda George, the county’s prothonotary and clerk of courts.

Mike Diebold, 40, of Forks Church Road, Gilpin, is accused of using the internet to solicit sex from a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl. The girl actually was a special agent for the state Attorney General’s Office predator task force.

Mike Diebold was arrested in a Jan. 5 sting in a Lower Burrell convenience store parking lot and initially was jailed in the Westmoreland County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bond pending the hearing.

He later posted bond and was released.

He is not staying at his home because Danielle Diebold was granted an emergency PFA previously that prohibits Mike Diebold from having contact with his wife, stepdaughter and son.

George said the permanent PFA application

“On October 6th of 2017, the sheriff’s office received a complaint of an individual conducting lewd acts in the parking lot of a local business,” said Sgt. James Cooper, with the Hanover Sheriff’S Office.

Deputies said their investigation led them Tearne after they set up surveillance and they served two indictments.

Though the allegations date back to October, he was just charged this week because the case had to go through a grand jury.

“This is a sensitive case absolutely, but,” said Cooper, “we’re absolutely going to investigate every case no matter who is involved.”

According to the DLA website, Tearne retired from the air force in October 2016 and has more than 20 years law enforcement experience. He moved

Suspended Leechburg police Chief Mike Diebold free on bond while awaiting hearing – Tribune

Mike Diebold, the suspended Leechburg police chief facing child predator charges, has been released from jail after posting bond, his attorney confirmed Thursday night.

Attorney Duke George said Diebold was released from the Westmoreland County Prison, which is the county jail.

“The only comment I (will) make is I’m glad he’s out,” George said. “Now he’s entitled to his (due) process, and we’ll see what happens between now and the finalization of these charges.”

Diebold, 40, of Forks Church Road, Gilpin, is accused of soliciting sex via the internet from someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl but actually was a special agent for the state Attorney General’s Office’s predator task force.

He was arrested Jan. 5 after arranging to meet with the person he thought was the girl at the Lower Burrell Sheetz.

Diebold had been jailed since his arrest on $500,000 straight bond. Straight bond requires the suspect to post the entire amount, either in cash or property, as collateral to assure that the suspect doesn’t skip out on upcoming court proceedings.

George said earlier that

Leechburg reacts to arrest of Police Chief Mike Diebold on child predator charges – Tribune

Updated 5 hours ago

For those closest to Leechburg police Chief Mike Diebold, it’s difficult to understand the child predator allegations that came out against him Friday after an investigation by the state Attorney General’s Office.

Diebold, 40, of Forks Church Road in Gilpin was arrested Friday after attempting to rendezvous with a 14-year-old girl who was actually an undercover agent, according to the attorney general.

The news came as a shock to friends and family who have stood by Diebold during the turbulent six months since he was injured in a fireworks accident and lost part of one arm.

It seemed there was a light at the end of the tunnel after Diebold reached an agreement at the end of December with borough officials on what steps he needed to take to possibly return to work as chief.

Diebold’s mother comments

Diebold’s mom, Karen Diebold, was obviously shaken during a phone interview on Saturday.

“I just want to say that people have to not blame family members like me and Danielle (Diebold’s wife),” she said. “It’s hard enough

Paul Campbell, state senator and Charleston airports chief, arrested …

Paul Campbell, a state senator who is chief executive over Charleston’s airports, was arrested on charges of drunken driving and lying to police Saturday night after claims that his wife was behind the wheel in an accident on Interstate 26, authorities said.

Campbell’s wife, Vicki, also was charged with providing false information to police.

After he was released on bond following an unusual hearing Sunday, the senator told The Post and Courier he was not driving the car involved in a collision that authorities said occurred on a congested portion of I-26 near Goose Creek at 9:15 p.m.

“I’m as innocent as can be,” he said, “and that’s going to come out at trial.”

But the driver of the Jeep Patriot rear-ended in the accident told The Post and Courier that she saw Paul Campbell exit the driver’s side of the car and change over to the passenger side, while a woman moved into the driver’s seat.

“Well, after I was rear-ended, he pulled off in front of me, and they immediately swapped seats,” Michaela Caddin, a 21-year-old from Summerville, said Sunday.

After the collision, Caddin said the senator approached her vehicle and asked at least twice if she would be willing to exit the interstate to

Paul Campbell, state senator and Charleston airports chief, arrested on DUI charge

Paul Campbell, a state senator who is chief executive over Charleston’s airports, was arrested on a drunken driving charge Saturday night after his wife first claimed she was behind the wheel, authorities said.

Campbell and his wife, Vicki, were charged with providing false information to police.

The Republican lawmaker from Goose Creek was arrested after his car struck another vehicle from behind in congested traffic on Interstate 26 near the U.S. 76 exit at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, the S.C. Highway Patrol said.

There was a discrepancy whether Campbell or his wife was driving at the time of the accident, but after troopers spoke with everyone involved in the collision, authorities determined the 71-year-old senator was behind the wheel.

When reached by a reporter Sunday, however, Campbell insisted he did nothing wrong and had not been driving.

“Everyone seems to be (saying) I was driving the car … I wasn’t driving the car,” he said. When asked to clarify who was driving, Campbell declined and said counsel advised him not to speak further about the incident.

Not so, said Michaela Caddin, who was driving the Jeep Patriot that Campbell allegedly hit.

“Well, after I was rear-ended, he pulled off in front of me, and they immediately swapped seats,”
