Lake Highlands English Teacher Arrested, Admits to Possessing … – NBC 5 Dallas

A Lake Highlands English teacher has been arrested, accused of possession of child pornography.

Investigators with the Collin County Sheriff’s Department and Plano Police Department said they arrested Dante Schmidt, of Allen, early Tuesday morning after receiving a tip he was downloading and sharing child pornography.

Police said they searched Schmidt’s home Monday night at about 6 p.m. and that he admitted to possessing the material and pointed out the computer he used to download and share the illegal images.

That computer was seized and will be forensically examined as evidence in the case. An arrest warrant was secured at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and Schmidt was taken into custody without incident about an hour later.

Police said they do not believe any students are victims. According to the school, Schmidt taught English and had been at the campus for three years.

In a tweet that was deleted sometime Tuesday, the Richardson ISD College and Career Readiness Department recognized Schmidt in July 2017 after he was named Rhetoric Teacher of the Year by Texas OnRamps.

Dallas firefighter arrested after crash kills woman, unborn baby

CEDAR HILL — Police are investigating a crash involving a Dallas firefighter that left an 18-year-old and her unborn child dead.

The crash happened at about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday in the southbound lanes of U.S Highway 67 just south of West Belt Line Road.

Police believe off-duty Dallas firefighter, 45-year-old Horace Shaw III, was driving a white Mercedes at a high rate of speed when he crashed into a maroon Mazda SUV heading south.

Both people inside the Mazda were ejected.

The 18-year-old driver of the Mazda, identified as Alyssa Pimentel, died from her injuries. Police say she was several months pregnant and her baby didn’t survive. The male passenger in the Mazda, her boyfriend, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver, Shaw, and passenger of the Mercedes were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

2 arrested in deadly Dallas drug shooting reportedly shown on Facebook Live

Updated at 11:15 p.m.: Revised to show Jacolby Hill and Ashton Hill have been arrested.

Two men were arrested Wednesday in a fatal shooting during a drug deal Saturday in Far East Dallas.

A witness told police Jacolby Hill, 21, and Ashton Hill, 23, admitted killing Jerell Dilworthduring a robbery, according to an arrest warrant. Police said the witness provided details that corroborate evidence. 

Authorities issued warrants for their arrests, and Jacolby Hill and Ashton Hill were taken into custody Wednesday night. 

Both have been charged with capital murder and booked into the Dallas County Jail. Bail has not yet been set.
