Driver of stolen car arrested after chase from Jennings and crash in St. Louis, police say

UPDATED at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday with details about carjacking from Friday.

ST. LOUIS • A man driving an SUV that was stolen in a carjacking led St. Louis County police on a chase, then crashed in St. Louis on Sunday night, police say. He was charged Monday with resisting arrest.

Bernard Lee Dorris Jr., 26, is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail. Dorris lives in the 12900 block of Whitecliff Court in unincorporated St. Louis County.

At about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, officers on patrol in Jennings spotted a red Ford Explorer on Goodfellow Boulevard. The SUV had been stolen in a carjacking Friday in St. Louis, said County Police Officer Benjamin Granda.

Granda said a county officer in a marked patrol car turned on his lights and siren as he followed the Explorer south on Goodfellow. The driver accelerated and, on Riverview Drive, traveled south in the northbound lanes, he said.

The driver eventually crashed into three parked cars near Vandeventer and Maffitt avenues, where the vehicle went airborne. One of three people in the car was thrown out, Granda said.

Dorris was caught afterward. Despite glass fragments on his hat and clothing and a bleeding left hand, Dorris denied being involved in the accident, Granda

Father of teen driver who live-streamed fatal crash speaks out: ‘She killed her own sister’

Obdulia Sanchez’s father concedes he has unanswered questions about the actions of his oldest daughter, who is accused of killing her younger sister in a crash while driving drunk, then narrating the aftermath in a horrifying Instagram live video.

But there’s one thing Nicandro Sanchez is sure of: His surviving daughter needs help.

He spoke out Monday about the death of one daughter and the murder charge of another for the first time after the live-streamed crash went viral.

“What I think is [Obdulia] knows she’s done something wrong,” Sanchez told ABC affiliate KFSN. “Because she knows, and that’s what I feel. She feels bad for herself, but she killed her own sister.”

The California Highway Patrol told Fox affiliate KTXL that the 18-year-old lost control of her 2003 Buick, drove off the edge of the road and then overcorrected. The car crashed into a barbed-wire fence and flipped over in a field, according to KFSN.

Obdulia Sanchez’s 14-year-old sister, Jacqueline, and another teen girl — who were in the back seat and not wearing seat belts — were ejected from the tumbling car.

Moments later, Obdulia Sanchez was on Instagram Live again, explaining what happened — and growing increasingly hysterical.

Fresno Unified bus driver was arrested on child pornography charges – KFSN

New information is unfolding as Fresno Police continue to investigate a Fresno Unified bus driver, Jeffrey Sipes, after he was first arrested Monday on child pornography charges.

Sergeant Israel Reyes said the task force in the Central Valley received a tip about a Gmail account that had uploaded some child pornography. He said they found over 600 downloaded images of pre-pubescent children at his home.

The 54-year-old Fresno resident bailed himself out that same night, but through their investigation, police made contact with a possible sexual assault victim.

“Detectives contacted this female, who’s an adult now, and she indicated she’s been sexually molested by Sipes many years ago,” said Reyes.

Police said Sipes was taken into custody again Wednesday morning around 10:30 a.m. at a family member’s house in Northeast Fresno and now faces a second charge for lewd acts with a child.

Fresno Unified said they notified parents and Sipes was placed on administrative leave as soon as they learned of his arrest. They also said Sipes drove students of all ages from elementary school to high school, but the district and police said they do not believe any students are victims.

“Fresno Unified is heartbroken to hear about this arrest and we hope that

Driver arrested after Tennessee school bus crash kills several children

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The driver of an elementary school bus involved in a deadly crash Monday has been arrested, Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher told reporters in a nighttime briefing.

Five children were killed, Fletcher said. Earlier reports had put the number at six.

Families of the dead children have been notified, he said, but their names haven’t been — and won’t be — released.

CBS News correspondent Mark Strassman reports a mom who had three kids on the bus, one of whom died, said that just before crashing, the driver said something to the effect of “Is everyone here ready to die?” and then seconds later, the bus was on its side and five kids were killed. The mom said she had complained repeatedly about the driver’s behavior before the accident, but no official responded.
