Four couples from Lakewood, New Jersey — including a well-known local rabbi — have been arrested for allegedly defrauding public assistance programs of more than $1.3 million in benefits, prosecutors said Monday.
At the heart of the charges is the allegation that they all, in one way or another, failed to report or otherwise concealed significant income that would have made them ineligible for the wide variety of assistance programs in which they had enrolled.
Rachel and Mordechai Sorotzkin face federal charges, as do Yocheved and Shimon Nussbaum. The Sorotzkins allegedly obtained state Medicaid benefits that they did not qualify for, while the Nussbaums allegedly did the same with Medicaid, housing and food assistance benefits.
Seperately, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office filed state charges against Mordechai and Jocheved Breskin and Zalmen and Tzipporah Sorotzkin. (The relationship between the two Sorotzkin families was not immediately clear). Both couples allegedly underreported income to collect Medicaid, food, housing and Social Security benefits.

“These are people who prey on children and we prey on them in order to keep them away from children as best we can,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
WINTER HAVEN — Several parents of minor children or people holding jobs working with children are on the list of 42 people arrested in the Polk County Sheriff’s Office recent three-week undercover investigation into child pornography.
“These are people who prey on children and we prey on them in order to keep them away from children as best we can,” Sheriff Grady Judd said at a Wednesday morning news conference announcing results of the investigation, Operation Child Guardian, that sprang from “my absolute total disdain for the people who abuse children. It’s a top priority for our department.”
The Sheriff’s Office worked with the Office of Probation and Parole at the Florida Department of Corrections in Lakeland and the State Attorney’s Office in Bartow, according to a statement. The arrests include 14 people with no criminal history as well as people previously convicted of sex offenses.
Sheriff’s Office investigators have not yet arrested Matthew Sutton, 30, of Bartow, who is being sought on a warrant
Kate Major allegedly assaulted a police officer in a drunken rage.
Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ … Kate was doing a kiddie drop Saturday at the Florida home of estranged hubby Michael Lohan when she went to a neighbor’s house and came out drunk.
We’re told Kate wanted to drive home but Michael wouldn’t give her the keys, so she called the cops. Law enforcement tells us when they arrived they attempted to arrest her for drunk and disorderly conduct in public, and that’s when she allegedly attacked an officer.
She’s currently in the Palm Beach slammer, with some big problems. Kate’s on probation for assault, and this could land her in jail for an extended stay.
