Miami candidate once arrested on credit card theft charges, disorderly intoxication

Miami Commission candidate Denise Galvez Turros was arrested in 2010 on charges of disorderly intoxication, and also in 1994 on accusations of credit card theft.

Miami-Dade and state records show the charges, first reported Friday by blogger Elaine De Valle, were either dismissed or dropped by prosecutors. In a text Friday, Galvez said she “was not driving or even in a car, so there was no DUI” in 2010, although De Valle published a Miami-Dade mugshot profile that characterized the charges as driving under the influence.

Galvez did not address the credit card charges.

Galvez is one of three candidates running for Miami’s District 4 commission seat, which is being vacated by commissioner and mayoral candidate Francis Suarez. She is believed to be trailing Manuel “Manolo” Reyes and Ralph Rosado heading into election day on Tuesday.

Court dockets show Galvez, who runs and owns her own public relations firm, Go To Marketing PR, was arrested in 1994 by Miami-Dade police on a felony charge of credit card theft and misdemeanor illegal signing of a credit card. Court dockets show the felony was reduced to a misdemeanor and dismissed. No action was taken on the charge of illegal signing.
