Utah officer fired after nurse’s arrest caught on video

A Utah police officer was fired Tuesday after being seen on video roughly handcuffing a nurse because she refused to allow a blood draw in an incident that became a flashpoint in the national conversation about use of force.

Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown made the decision to fire Detective Jeff Payne after an internal investigation found he violated department policies when he arrested nurse Alex Wubbels and dragged her screaming from the hospital, department spokesman Sgt. Brandon Shearer said.

Brown said in a disciplinary letter that he was “deeply troubled” by Payne’s conduct, which he described as “inappropriate, unreasonable, unwarranted, discourteous, disrespectful” and said brought “significant disrepute” on the department.

“You demonstrated extremely poor professional judgment (especially for an officer with 27 years of experience), which calls into question your ability to effectively serve the public and the department,” Brown wrote.

Attorney Greg Skordas, who represents Payne, said his client plans to appeal a firing he considers unfair and over the top. Skordas said Payne would still be employed if the body camera footage hadn’t generated so much attention and blown the events out of proportion.

Payne’s supervisor, Lt. James Tracy, was demoted

Newly released video shows the moment a Florida woman was arrested Thursday, after she was caught swerving and failed a breathalyzer test with an unbuckled child in the back of her car.

Brandy Lerma, 31, of Boynton Beach, was spotted by a tow truck driver swerving all over the road and almost hit four nearby cars, WPEC reported.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said a responding deputy smelled alcohol coming from the car and saw an unrestrained 3-year-old in the backseat when he pulled Lerma over.

When an officer had Lerma do a sobriety test, she is seen in the video stumbling to the side after she was asked to follow his pen with her eyes.

After she was instructed to walk down a white line and failed, the 31-year-old admitted she had a couple shots of Fireball, a brand of cinnamon whiskey. Lerma took two breathalyzer tests in which she blew a .200 and a .187, according to WPEC. The legal blood alcohol level limit in Florida is .08.

Lerma was then arrested, and when she was placed in the backseat of the police cruiser, the 31-year-old then began a verbal tirade.

“I will

Karen King

*After Karen King’s mugshot was dragged mercilessly following her arrest for allegedly skipping car payments, the “Love Hip Hop: Atlanta” star took to social media with an explanation.

As previously reported, King was in court Monday on another matter when the clerk announced she had an outstanding warrant for the car case. Accused of ignoring payments on her Maserati, she was arrested on the spot.

And then this surfaced…

After social media had a field day with her mugshot, King filmed a minute-long video lashing out at the media attention surrounding her arrest and defending the state of her hair.

“TMZ gossipin’. Yes my hair was braided down,” she snapped. “I’m not on crack. That’s how a b**ch hair look when it’s braided down for a weave, or a f**kin’ wig, whatever.

“It was braided down! So what! I look crazy! Yall know I ain’t on crack! The f**k?”

She also denied missing any of her car payments.

VIDEO MUG SHOT Erica Dixon talks getting arrested after 7-on-1 road rage incident

Erica Dixon arrested

Former LHHATL cast member Erica Dixon has been channeling her inner Tommie over the past few days. Erica’s gotten her biggest headlines since her days on the show thanks to an arrest following a road rage incident which saw her take on seven (7) police officers in a Spring Break-esque drunken fight.

TMZ broke the story; according to their take, Erica was first pulled over for speeding, and tried to drive away from the citing officer before he’d finished giving her a ticket. (The same article says that Erica claimed she’d already been given the ticket.) More police show up and try to get Erica under control, but the three shots of Grand Marnier Erica says she’s had appear to take over.

Erica was cited for disorderly conduct after the fight, which was of course captured on video:

Erica Dixon’s mug shot also surfaced shortly thereafter:

Suspect Orlando cop’s slaying says he was brutalized; video of arrest released

Hours after a fugitive in the slaying of a police officer told a judge he was brutalized during his arrest, Orlando’s police chief released a video of his surrender and described the suspect as “extremely violent, dangerous and very unpredictable.”

The nighttime aerial video shows Markeith Loyd crawling across the front yard of a home before he’s surrounded by police. At least two of the officers appear to kick him as he surrenders. The camera then pans out and away, making it difficult to see anything in detail.

Police Chief John Mina acknowledged that Loyd was kicked during his arrest Tuesday, but said that’s because he was resisting the officers’ orders.

Loyd later appeared with both eyes swollen shut and blood oozing from his mouth. He was hospitalized overnight and then jailed before his initial appearance Thursday.

Police release aerial video of Markeith Loyd capture

Orlando police released Thursday dark aerial video footage of murder suspect Markeith Loyd’s capture, which appears to show officers kicking Loyd in the head twice after he crawled out of the abandoned house in which he was hiding.

Chief John Mina said a use of force investigation is underway, which is customary when any officer uses force.

Loyd was arrested Tuesday in Carver Shores. He is accused of killing Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton Jan. 9, as well as the death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend Sade Dixon Dec. 13.

Loyd was injured during the arrest, though officers did not fire any shots. No officers were injured.

Mina said Loyd resisted arrest by not putting his hands behind his back.

At his first court appearance Thursday morning, Loyd complained that officers beat him. Mina confirmed at a press conference Thursday afternoon that Loyd had a fractured bone at his left eye socket, as well as some damage to his left eye.
